Characteristics Of Leaders That Are Effective

The true purpose of effective leadership is to unlock the potential in others. Leaders build leaders.

TRUST:
Trust is must for effective leaders. When people work with you it is important for leaders to deposit in their own trust worthy account. Trust is the foundation of any relationship: personal or professional. Remember, leadership is about relationships and relationships are built on trust. The only way leaders can build trust is to make your words and your actions match. You must do what you say you will do every time. You must be willing to do the things you ask others to do. When you align your words with your actions, people begin to trust you. Trust is build through consistency over time. When people trust you, you have more influence in their lives. When you can influence the people you work with, you are in a better position to add value to their lives and their work product.
Trust is the foundation of effective leadership.

DESIRE:
Desire is the only characteristic that will move leaders to accomplish their dreams. This characteristic allows leaders to get what they want out of life. However, desire requires ACTION. You must put work and a plan to your desire to reach your full potential. Desire creates WILL POWER and this is the thermometer of a leader’s soul. Desire creates the fire to get things done. Desire helps leaders check themselves. Desire moves people from where they are to where they want to be.

URGENCY:
It is important for leaders to prioritize tasks. The higher the priority, the sense of urgency the task requires. All leaders have the ability to create a sense of urgency to get things done. Urgency requires leaders to move now, act now, and change now. If you have it within you, you can teach it to others. We teach what we know, but we reproduce who we are. Effective leaders develop their sense of urgency for getting the job done and done well.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountability is the principle that is essential to every leader’s life if they are to be effective. Effective leaders have an accountability partner; one who loves them enough to tell them the truth about everything; one who loves them enough to hold their feet to the fire when times re tough, one you cares enough to ask them the hard questions. We all make mistakes and sometimes we can explain our mistakes away. However, an accountability partner will tell you the real truth about your mistakes and what you should learn from them. Those leaders, who really want to improve themselves, are truthful to themselves.

COURAGE WHILE FACING DIFFICULTY:
Have you noticed that you don’t need courage to get through the easy times, the good times, or when things are going well? Courage is one of those characteristics that you pull out when things are tough, when difficult decisions need to be made, when things are not going well. Courage is what you call on when are facing something bigger than yourself, that one thing that intimidates you, the thing you have no idea what to do with it. Some leaders get courage and fear confused. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is the thing that gives you the Power to overcome the fear. It gives you the Power to take action. Courage is that characteristic that gives you promise on the other side of the action. Those leaders who have the stamina to move through the tough times learn one of life’s greatest lessons; never give up. If you think you can, you can and if you think you can’t, you can’t. Those leaders who never find the courage to get through the tough times, end up with a sense of entitlement, which often times causes them to make more mistakes.
Courage is essential to effective leadership.
